UAE drifting king Ahmed Al Ameri retains his title for the 2014/2015 season with one round remaining through points accumulated.
Al-Futtaim Motors' Toyota Emirates Drifting Team, led by reigning champion Ahmed Al Ameri, has secured the Drift UAE Championship title for the second year in a row with an accomplished performance in Muscat, Oman, during the third round of the championship. The Toyota Emirates Drifting Team finished first overall in points accumulated, securing the title with one round remaining, to be held at the Yas Marina Circuit on March 28th.
Upon this achievement for the second year in a row, Ahmed Al Ameri said: “The Toyota Emirates Drifting Team has shown great dedication to this sport and put in endless hours of practice and development. Thanks to the Toyota 86 and the great support from Al-Futtaim Motors, we managed to secure the championship title for a second year in a row.
“Competing in Oman was an exciting experience, and we're very happy to see the sport's expanding popularity beyond the UAE, which we hope will mean an even more competitive regional grid for the upcoming season."
Jon Williams, Managing Director at Al-Futtaim Motors, said: “We're very proud of Toyota Emirates Drifting Team's achievement this year, securing the title in record time with one round remaining is no small feat. Drifting is the essence of Toyota's Waku Doki promise – Japanese for “adrenaline rush" –and a pillar of Al-Futtaim Motors' involvement in the local sports scene."
Ahmed Al Ameri, lead driver for the Toyota Emirates Drifting Team, becomes the first driver to win back-to-back Drift UAE Championships, and the first driver to win three titles in the competition, securing titles in the 2011/2012, 2013/2014 and 2014/2015 seasons. The Toyota Emirates Drifting Team is the UAE's most accomplished drifting team and the first to get the official support of a local automotive distributor in the form of Al-Futtaim Motors, exclusive distributor of Toyota in the UAE.
The highly modified Toyota 86 drift car makes use of specially designed and modified parts aimed at increasing the aerodynamics of the vehicle, while allowing the driver the highest levels of control while drifting. Powered by Toyota and with Ahmed at the wheel, the Emirates Drifting Team has placed on the podium twice in as many races, while remaining the points leaders and maintaining its first overall position.
The Toyota Emirates Drift Team is one of two motorsports ventures that Al-Futtaim Motors is currently active in, a testament to the company's increased involvement in motorsports in the UAE, the second being the TRD 86 Cup, the country's first single make championship launched in December of this year hot on the heels of TRD's introduction to the UAE.
