UAE drifting king Ahmed Al Ameri gets podium finish in Round 2
Keeping with the trend from Round 1, Al-Futtaim Motors' Toyota Emirates Drifting Team, led by reigning champion Ahmed Al Ameri, continued his success by finishing second at the 2014/2015 Drift UAE Round 2 which was held on January 24th at the Yas Marina Circuit, staying on track to defend its title for the upcoming season.
Speaking after his second podium finish, Ahmed Al Ameri said: “The key to winning the title is consistency, a lot of practice and a great car, modified specifically to compete in one of the most demanding automotive sports. With Al-Futtaim Motors' support and the Toyota 86 for the new season, we're well on track to retaining our title for the 2013/2014 championship."
Jon Williams, Managing Director at Al-Futtaim Motors, said: “Ahmed has done a great job driving the Toyota 86 for two seasons now, winning last year's competition and being well on the way to repeat the feat this year with two back-to-back podium finishes. The Toyota 86 is Toyota's definition of an authentic rear-wheel-drive sports car with exceptionally balanced performance and handling, the perfect translation of our Waku Doki promise – Japanese for “adrenaline rush" – and our way of reigniting passion for motorsports in the market."
Ahmed Al Ameri, lead driver for the Toyota Emirates Drifting Team, is a two-time champion who has been crowned UAE drift king for the 2011/2012 and 2013/2014 seasons. The Toyota Emirates Drifting Team is the UAE's most accomplished drifting team and the first to get the official support of a local automotive distributor in the form of Al-Futtaim Motors, exclusive distributor of Toyota in the UAE.
The highly modified Toyota 86 drift car makes use of specially designed and modified parts aimed at increasing the aerodynamics of the vehicle, while allowing the driver the highest levels of control while drifting. Powered by Toyota and with Ahmed at the wheel, the Emirates Drifting Team has placed on the podium twice in as many races, while remaining the points leaders and maintaining its first overall position.
The Toyota Emirates Drift Team is one of two motorsports ventures that Al-Futtaim Motors is currently active in, a testament to the company's increased involvement in motorsports in the UAE, the second being the TRD 86 Cup, the country's first single make championship launched in December of this year hot on the heels of TRD's introduction to the UAE.
